Select Properties and click Ports/Connections then check 'USB.Virtual printer for.hp deskjet 990c'. Go back to the 'Printer and Faxes' folder and right-click on the name of your printer. Select Yes to print a test page, click Next then Finish to complete the setup. Select 'Keep existing driver (recommended)' click Next, name your printer, select Yes to set your printer as the default printer then click Next. Select HP under the Manufacturer list and under the Printer list, select hp deskjet 990c then click Next. Click 'Use the following port' and select LPT1: (Recommended printer port) then click Next. Select 'Local printer attached to this computer' and uncheck 'Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer' then click Next.
Under the printer tasks, click 'Add a printer' then click Next on the Add Printer Wizard dialog box.
When the installation is complete, click the START button on the lower left corner of your screen then on the right pane, click 'Printers and Faxes'. The problem can be resolved by completely uninstalling the driver and installing it again. (Exception code 0xc0000005) Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed.
When you go to the printer properties, you'll get a message: Function address 0x500a0490 caused a protection fault. But as soon as you print a document, photo, or anything from the computer, the printer fails and says " The program has encountered a problem and needs to close". The driver installs perfectly it performs the alignment and prints the test page. A lot of HP Deskjet F4200 Series All-in-One printer users complain about the installation problem experienced with this product, especially those using the Windows XP operating system.
